Participate In Division 44
Join the Division
If you're not a member yet, here's some information about types of membership and how to join.
- Members and and Associate members of Division 44 hold parallel status in the American Psychological Association.
- Confidential Affiliate membership is open to anyone with an interest in sexual orientation issues No affiliation with the American Psychological Association or psychology is necessary. However, APA members who wish to have their affiliation with Division 44 held in confidence may also request this membership category from the membership chair.
- Student Affiliates must be a full-time student. Student Affiliates need not be members of APAGS in order to join Division 44.
Dues for Members, Associate members and Confidential Affiliate members are currently set at 30.00 per year. Dues for Student Affiliates are $10 per year. APA Members and Associates pay dues via their APA dues statement; Students and Confidential affiliates will be billed directly by the Division.
How to apply
There are several ways to join Division 44. If you're an APA member you can join Division 44 directly on-line today , or you can indicate an interest in joining the Division on your annual APA or APAGS dues statement in the fall. Or you can download and fill out the Membership Application if you're joining as a Confidential Affiliate, and return it as an attachment to the Membership Chair.
What students can do
- Become a member
- Attend the APA Convention
- Contact one of your Student Representatives to volunteer to help staff the Division's hospitality suite at the APA Convention
- Serve on a committee or task force
- Contact one of the Committee on Mentoring chairs to participate in the mentoring program
- Apply for one of our student grants or scholarships
- Participate in the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS)
What members can do
An easy way to help the Division is to allocate all of your votes to Division 44 when you receive your allocation ballot from APA in the Fall. Other ways to participate:
Network
- Subscribe to the Division's member listserv
- Recruit new members
- Attend the APA Convention and Multicultural Summit
- Purchase a Division 44 pin at the Division's Hospitality Suite to wear at the APA Convention.
- If you are a fellow, submit the address of your website to the Website Editor for the Division 44 Fellows page.
Serve
- Volunteer to serve on a committee or task force in your area of interest
- Consider running for elected office in the division
Apply for awards and research money
- Apply for a research grant to fund a new contribution to LGBT psychology
- Nominate a deserving colleague or student for one of our divisional awards
- Apply to become a fellow
Write
- Write a brief entry for the Division newsletter that describes your success in developing a new resource or your advocacy efforts. Our newsletter editor welcomes articles, and seeks book reviewers.
- Talk with the Book Series Editor about developing a proposal for a contribution to Division 44’s book series
Teach
- Contact one of the Committee on Mentoring chairs to participate in the mentoring program
- Respond to the call for proposals to the APA Convention or Multicultural Summit or offer to serve as a reviewer
- Infuse LGBT psychology into the courses you teach.
Donate
- Attend and become a sponsor for the fundraising dinner
- Make an annual cash contribution
- Assign a portion of book royalties
- Make a memorial gift
- Make division 44 beneficiary of your will
- Endow a scholarship, grants program or other special initiative
