Members
The Division's primary conduits for communication are this website, the member newsletter and the member listserv. We see each other at the Convention and Summit.
An easy way to help the Division is to allocate all of your votes to Division 44 when you receive your allocation ballot from APA in the Fall. Other ways to participate:
Network
- Subscribe to the Division's member listserv
- Update your membership profile to indicate professional interests
- If you are a fellow, submit the address of your website to the Website Editor for the Fellows page.
- Recruit new members
- Attend the APA Convention or Multicultural Summit
- Purchase a Division 44 pin to wear at Convention at the Division's Hospitality Suite.
Serve
- Read through the "What we're doing" section to discover many different ways to contribute to the Division's mission in your area of interest.
- Volunteer to serve on a committee or task force
- Consider running for elected office in the division
Apply for awards and research money
- Apply for a research grant to fund a new contribution to LGBT psychology
- Nominate a deserving colleague for an award
- Become a fellow
Write
- Write a brief entry for the Division newsletter that describes your success in developing a new resource or your advocacy efforts.
- Volunteer to contribute to a case book that could become a significant resource for LGBT-affirming counselors and therapists.
- Talk with Greg Herek about developing a proposal for a contribution to Division 44’s book series
Teach
- Participate in the Mentoring program
- Volunteer to develop a Continuing Education experience that will assist other psychologists in developing the necessary expertise to work effectively with LGBTQ clients.
- Respond to the call for proposals to the Convention or Summit or offer to serve as a reviewer
- Consider applying for funding from APA or elsewhere to host a small conference on an LGBT-affirming topic.
- Infuse LGBT psychology into the courses you teach.
Donate
- Attend and become a sponsor for the fundraising dinner
- Donate good or services
- Make an annual cash contribution
- Assign a portion of book royalties
- Make a memorial gift
- Make division 44 beneficiary of your will
- Endow a scholarship, grants program or other special initiative
Students
- Become a member
- Attend the APA Convention
- Contact one of your Student Representatives to volunteer to help staff the Division's hospitality suite at APA Convention
- Serve on a committee or task force
- Participate in the Mentoring program
- Participate in the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS)
Apply for awards and research money
- Apply for the Malyon-Smith Scholarship Award
- Apply for the Bisexual Foundation Scholarship Award
- Apply for the Student Travel Award to the APA convention
- Nominate someone for the Distinguished Student Contribution Award
