Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity

Chairs

Kirstyn Yuk Sim Chun and Michele K. Lewis

Mission

CoRED’s mission is to increase the diversity of the Division by representing the concerns of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities of color and providing information on these issues to the members at large. Of particular concern to the committee is the intersection of Ethnic Diversity and LGBT concerns and supporting professionals and students personally and professionally. The Committee meets annually at APA in the Division suite and the Chair attends Executive Committee meetings.

The committee sponsors a student travel scholarship to the APA Convention to encourage greater participation in Division 44 annual convention activities by LGBT students of color. It also works to increase the amount of programming on these topics at Convention and in the Division newsletter.

What You Can Do

Do you believe in a world where there is “no hierarchy of oppressions?” Do you identify as a “multiple minority?” Are you interested in learning more about “intersections” between sexual orientation and race among your students, clients, research participants, and colleagues?

Then consider joining Division 44’s Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity. This committee seeks to explore ways Division 44 can better serve professionals, educators, researchers, and students in this area. To learn more about how you can get involved with CoRED, please contact one of the co-chairs
